Offseason rust and poor patience at the plate led to a Modsquad opening day loss, their third consecutive loss dating back to last season.
The Boys in Purple managed to leave 9 runners on base (5 in scoring position), none more costly than leaving the bases loaded in the first inning.
Julio Gonzalez, a recent graduate of the "Todd Dias School of Base Running", collected his first ever Modsquad hit in his rookie debut. Gonzalez was then promptly thrown out after trying to stretch a single into a double.
Alfrin Vallejo, also making his debut, was solid filling in for Chris Iannantuoni. Iannantuoni was a late scratch from the lineup, citing "Swine Flu-like Symptoms".
Sams/GLM erupted for six runs in the fourth inning and then tacked on another insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of numerous Modsquad miscues in the field.
With the game being shortened to six innings due to time constraints, Modsquad batters went 1-2-3 in the top half of the sixth, requiring the opposining pitcher to hurl off only five pitches to end the inning.
