Poor defense and a lack of hitting sentenced the Modsquad to two loses last night, as the 'Boys in Purple were swept out of the playoffs 17-10 and 7-6.

The Modsquad outfield, which had been the team's defensive anchor the entire season, misplayed a handful of balls that led to costly runs. Add on a few balls tosses wildly around the infield (one leading to a bloody nose) and the Modsquad all but put out hopes of securing their first ever championship.

Eric Klein, the team's third baseman, received a shot to the nose after a throw bounced akwardly as a play at third unfolded. Play was stopped for several minutes as the team doctor, Dr. Scott Berns, worked his magic on Klein's bloody nose.

Chris Lima went 3-4 with a home run and two RBIs and Bruce Lin and Chris Iannantuoni each added two RBIs in the first game of the double header.

Timely hitting (or lack of) continued to plague the Modsquad, as the team left eleven runners on base. Reuters' ablility to peck at the scoreboard and continuous pressure on the Modsquad defense (outfield plays back; they hit in front, outfield plays in; they knock over heads) allowed for them to take the first game.

The second game of the doubleheader (win or go home) started off well for the squad as bats came alive in the first inning. Lima started off the rally with a triple and Nick Difranza quickly delivered a two run home run to put the 'Squad up early.

In the third inning, Lima again tripled and Difranza followed with a triple of his own, driving in another run. A sacrifice fly by Rob Lucas drove in Difranza, and the team was up by four.

Todd Dias tripled to start off the fourth innng and scored on a sac fly by Mike Lima, (err..Scott Berns) but the following inning saw Reuters tie up the game.

Iannantuoni led of the top of the seventh with a single, and eventually scored to put the teamup by one, but two runs scored by Reuters in the bottom half of the inning sealed the Modsquad's season.
