"All good things must eventually come to an end" someone famous once said/wrote/mumbled/scrawled on a cave wall. Last night, the Modsquad's win streak did just that, but not without a fight.

After giving up a four run lead twice in the game, the 'Squad attempted to rally late in the game, but fell short 14-12.

Last night's game was one of the oddest games in recent Modsquad history, as it was filled with unusual umpire calls, a record breaking pickle play, multiple pick offs, confusion between the color orange and white, base running plays that actually never happened, and the reappearance of the incredible shrinking strike zone.

Modsquad outfielder Chris Lima led the team in hitting with three base knocks, and started the seventh inning comeback with a leadoff triple. Lima also led all outfielders in unnecessary dives.

Rob Lucas was an offensive juggernaut, driving in a team high four runs.

Lucas also made his first career Modsquad relief appearance, after Pete lost command of his fastball. Lucas' relief appearance eventually led to one of the most bizarre calls we've seen so far.

Jackson Lewis' number eight batter led off the inning with a weak grounder back to Lucas. Lucas trotted over to first and seemingly touched the bag. According to the umpire, Lucas instead touched the safety bag (orange) and the base runner was awarded first.

Chris Iannatuoni extended his hitting streak to three games and continued to pile onto his reaching base in consecutive at bat streak, extending it to thirteen straight plate appearances.

Kyle Bobek got the monkey off his back, finally getting his first hit of the season with a single in the sixth inning.

The Boys in Purple take the field twice next week, Tuesday and Friday. Both games start at 7:00 pm. Stay tuned for more information regarding a Friday Night Modsquad BBQ.

5 Response to "Modsquad Lose Despite Successful Pickle"

  1. #0 Said,

was it the grumpy old guy umpire that made the call on Lucas at first?

  2. #22 Said,

Nope, we've had this ump before, very timid, so he was prone to being persuaded by the other team.

  3. #4 Said,

who, the black ump? I've known his since I was 15 years old playing in Greenburg league. He's not timid or easily persuaded. He once kicked a guy out for batting with his hat on backwards.

  4. #22 Said,

No, the other guy who was in the field...I might actually be thinking about Bobek's ghost take out slide...
