The Modsquad’s Cinderella season continued yesterday, as the boys in purple overcame a disastrous start to beat Two Four, 9-6.
After giving up a run in the first inning, centerfielder Chris Iannantuoni became the first player in Modsquad history to hit a home run in the post season. The blast to right field tied the game up at one.
Two Four then took advantage of four walks in the next inning, and managed to push across four runners, taking a 5-1 lead. After taking a lead off walk, John Leahy managed to score on Todd Dias' RBI single in the bottom half of the second, but the team failed to muster up a rally.
Things looked bleak in the third as Two Four tacked on another run and shut down the offense in the bottom half of the inning.
Defensive support by the 'Squad's outfielders helped keep the team in the game for the next two innings when the bats finally decided to come alive.
Eric Klein singled in Rob Lucas (who earlier hit his first of two monster triples) to tie the game up at six. Lucas, the team’s first baseman and resident Bash Brother, ignited two rallies, and drove in the eventual game winning run with his second triple in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Lucas finished the day with three huge RBIs and was able to pick up the top of the order who didn't fare well (4-12).
With the Modsquad up by three, Coletta settled down and retired the side in order, with Two Four's big stick flying out to left to end the game.
Modsquad will face the winner of Thursday's game that features the 2 and 3 seeded Colonial and Reuters. The Championship Series begins with a double header next Monday starting at 5:45. The Championship Series is a best 2 out of 3 format. Peter Coletta is slated to start Game 1 while Mike Lima, the Modsquad's #2 in the rotation, will take the hill for the second game.
What a first. That was a good game to get all the bad mojo out of our systems. Ready for more playoffs.
And again, I’d just like to point out, that thanks to Kyle carrying a refrigerator on his back, we won the softball game. If he doesn’t draw that throw to second, Todd Dias never scores. Kudos Bobek!
You guys were awesome (as usual!)and I'm looking forward to the double wins on Monday!!! ~lg
A slow start but a hot finish. Hopefully, Monday we will be able to put on an hitting clinic and show how we roll...
