Poor base running and fielding errors were not enough to stop the Modsquad from winning this week. Modsquad bats overcame a weak defensive showing to squeak by Woodward & Curran last night, improving to 5-1 on the season.

Modsquad’s best defensive play of the night came in between innings, when Modsquad Superfan Kristen Bladel realized that the opposing team miscalculated their run total. Woodward & Curran’s scorekeeper gave the team an extra run, and Bladel was quick to correct.

Modsquad shortstop Nick Difranza was hot at the plate, driving in a run while collecting three hits (two for doubles). Rob Lucas’ impersonator also had three hits, and drove in a run.

Dropped, booted, and misplayed balls plagued Modsquad all night, leading to nine unearned runs. Modsquad skipper, Alan Brogdon, was not thrilled at the way the team came about their victory; “There’s winning, and there’s winning ugly. We won ugly tonight. We’re going to have to play a lot better next Friday”.

Modsquad faces the number one team in the league, Colonial; in what will be a match up of two Goliaths. Colonial leads the division, with the Modsquad right behind them in second place.
